Language Register

Language in a magazine could either be formal or informal, a music magazine specifically has a certain language type depending on the genre of music. For example for an older and more classical style of music, the target audience would be those that have a lot more of a formal dialect, therefore the language used in the music magazines would be in a formal style. Another example would be NME, the general audience of this magazine is youthful, meaning that the language would be alot more informal and the general tone of the magazine would be that which in some ways personifies the magazine making it seem as if you were over hearing a conversation or talking to a friend. On the opposite end is Q magazine where the readers tend to be of an older age range, they tend to not want to read a magazine that uses informal language, therefore Q capitalises on this knowledge and makes sure that their magazine is formalised to make sure that the sales are productive and the actual magazine relates to the audience. In terms of interviews, they tend to be semi structured on all types of magazine. This is due to the fact that an interview usually either involve questions on an artists career or personal life, therefore the reader wants as much information as possible.
In my magazine, i find the fact that my target audience is incredibly wide makes it very difficult on whether or not to make my language formal or informal, therefore I have decided to make my magazine slightly informal yet civilised with generally a controlled tone.
